Amazon Now Offers MP3s For… Download?

Itunes may have met it’s match in the form of Amazon MP3s. Amazon has launched their long awaited response to the myriad of online music vendors. The songs are DRM free which represents a large commitment to the venture because of the legal fun that can ensue. Songs start at $0.89 and go up to $0.99. I like this because I can buy music cheaply without being tied to a vendor with annoying DRM. Amazon’s music is a good deal. You get high quality (256 kbps) songs cheaply, and you can do whatever you like with them. And with 2 million songs being offered, the selection is almost but not quite as good as Itunes (6 million).

Amazon may not be able to compete with the sheer volume that Itunes is capable of but they still have a huge market presence in the music industry that has the potential help Amazon stay competitive.

Update: After an effort to use Amazon’s promising new feature I ran into s significant problem (for me). Amazon Unbox (the downloading utility) does not come for Mac. Therefore, no Amazon music for Mac users.
